Extractors for Turing-Machine Sources

چکیده

We obtain the first deterministic randomness extractors for n-bit sources with minentropy ≥ n1−α generated (or sampled) by single-tape Turing machines running in time n2−16α, for all sufficiently small α > 0. We also show that such machines cannot sample a uniform n-bit input to the Inner Product function together with the output. The proofs combine a variant of the crossing-sequence technique by Hennie [SWCT 1965] with extractors for block sources, especially those by Chor and Goldreich [SICOMP 1988] and by Kamp, Rao, Vadhan, and Zuckerman [JCSS 2011]. ∗Supported by NSF grant CCF-0845003. Some improvements in fuzzy turing machines

In this paper, we improve some previous definitions of fuzzy-type Turing machines to obtain degrees of accepting and rejecting in a computational manner. We apply a BFS-based search method and some level’s upper bounds to propose a computational process in calculating degrees of accepting and rejecting. Next, we introduce the class of Extended Fuzzy Turing Machines equipped with indeterminacy s...

Dimension Extractors

A dimension extractor is an algorithm designed to increase the effective dimension – i.e., the computational information density – of an infinite sequence. A constructive dimension extractor is exhibited by showing that every sequence of positive constructive dimension is Turing equivalent to a sequence of constructive strong dimension arbitrarily close to 1. Similar results are shown for compu...

Bayesian perspective over time

Thomas Bayes, the founder of Bayesian vision, entered the University of Edinburgh in 1719 to study logic and theology. Returning in 1722, he worked with his father in a small church. He also was a mathematician and in 1740 he made a novel discovery which he never published, but his friend Richard Price found it in his notes after his death in 1761, reedited it and published it. But until L...

Kolmogorov Complexity: Sources, Theory and Applications

The theory of Kolmogorov complexity is based on the discovery, by Alan Turing in 1936, of the universal Turing machine. After proposing the Turing machine as an explanation of the notion of a computing machine, Turing found that there exists one Turing machine which can simulate any other Turing machine. Complexity, according to Kolmogorov, can be measured by the length of the shortest program ...

Deterministic Amplification of Space-Bounded Probabilistic Algorithms

This paper initiates the study of deterministic amplification of space-bounded probabilistic algorithms. The straightforward implementations of known amplification methods cannot be used for such algorithms, since they consume too much space. We present a new implementation of the Ajtai-Komlós-Szemerédi method, that enables to amplify an S-space algorithm that uses r random bits and errs with p...
